Route 20 Sofa Co. Nelson, NY
This project was the result of the end of one business and the beginning of a new. What was once the storage warehouse of Johnny Appleseed Farms has been remodeled into the sales space of a similar more streamlined version. Founded by one of the owners of the former furniture retailer, Route 20 Sofa Company is new in name only.
The spatial characteristics of the build are molded around the existing locations of utilities and building access throughout. While maintaining the necessary means egress, the construction consists of various partition walls defined by the showroom and necessary storage space. For example, the docking bay needed to be separate from the retail floor and was sequestered off by an appropriate area to receive shipments. The front desk area was positioned to conserve floor space while located near the entrance of the building providing a visual advantage to the owner.
The ambiance of the space can set a stage for more creative extracurricular exhibitions and shows. As it stands this store is one of the many stops in an organized tour of the artists in the immediate area, known as the Cazenovia art trail.
